J/105 Fleet 20 Annual Meeting 2006
The annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest J/105 Fleet 20 was held on Wednesday evening November 15th, 2006 at the new office of Sail Northwest in the new marina building at Shilshole. Our host Bob Ross provided great food and beverages as well as the always terrific assistance of Carol Reid and Bob Pistay.
Fleet Captain Gerald Hirschler (# 299 Jaded) welcomed four new to the fleet J/105 owners: Lorenzo Migliorini (# 89 Xtreme), Richard Locke (# 403 Mudlark), James Collins (# 525 Vanguard) and Mike Schlitz (# 617 Chile Pepper). Unfortunately our fifth (yes 5 new members who plan to race) Jerry Diercks (# 272 Delirium) was not able to attend.
Current Fleet members attending included Fleet Measurer Erik Kristen (# 114 Jubilee), Fleet Secretary-Treasurer Chuck Stephens (# 482 Panic), John "JP" Peterson (# 212 Last Tango), Jon Weil (# 446 Sambal), and Vickie (Dan’s Sister) Scouler (# 519 Sunday Ticket). Also present were associate members Mike Spear (Panic) and Lance McDonough (Sunday Ticket), our cooks for the PSSC dinner Laura and Nancy as well as other J/105 sailors.
Our first order of business was to elect Officers for 2007. Gerald, Erik and Chuck will continue in their current positions for 2007. The Executive Committee for 2006 (Gerald, Erik, Chuck and Bob Ross) will also carry over to 2007.
Our Fleet Articles for 2007, our Fleet 20 Season Championship Trophy Series for 2007 as well as other objectives and goals for the 2007 season were discussed at length.
We voted to retain the same articles as 2006. Gerald will publish our official articles for 2007.
We voted to retain the Fleet Championship Trophy Series as 2006 except that we will use category level B for crew eligibility.
Additional objectives for 2007 include:
-
All boats are to be weighed per the national rules by February 2008. Erik will coordinate and assure certification.
-
All sails used for one-design racing are to be measured before competing in a race for the 2007 Fleet Championship. Bob Pistay indicated the Quantum loft would do this in support of our Fleet. Thanks Jon Henderson and crew!
-
All forestays are to be measured. Erik will coordinate.
-
The fleet will attempt to secure one-design starts at several other significant races for 2007 but they will not be counted for the 2007 season championship. Gerald will coordinate.
-
A minimum of thirteen boats at PSSC.
-
A minimum of ten boats at Whidbey Island Race Week with nine different race winners!
-
We should continue to promote the fleet with the Race Week party. Chuck will coordinate.
-
We should encourage more informal fleet meetings throughout the year. Chuck will coordinate.
-
All fleet members are encouraged to help grow the fleet as well as the available pool of J/105 crew.
The J/105 Fleet 20 Championship Trophy for 2006 was awarded by Bob Ross to Gerald Hirschler’s Jaded.
Several other awards and acknowledgements were presented for the 2006 season. See our website (www.j105.org/fleet20/) for the list as well as the complete scoring for the 2006 season.

Subject: year-end meeting
Greetings to all Fleet 20 J-105 sailors:
A year-end fleet meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15th, 6:30 pm at the new offices of Sail Northwest
(the new building at Shilshole Marina). Bob Ross will provide snacks, wine and beer. Donations will be accepted. A special welcome is extended to all new fleet members and we look forward to your opinions and participation.
At the meeting, we will hope to finalize our 2007 itinerary, maybe come up with a measurement plan to encourage one-design integrity, present the fleet trophy, and otherwise fraternize and get to know each other in hopes that we can continue our pattern of good manners and civility on the racecourse. Hope to see you all there.

Preparations are nearing completion to assure that we all have the "
Sailing Vacation of the Century".
We have eight J/105 in our own one design class start. Some of these boats have been freely donated by the owners (who unfortunately can't attend) as rewards to their crews.
Crews have been recruited from near and far to staff the boats as needed. We have many more "wanna be J/105 crew" patiently waiting for an open position.
We have assembled an entire "university" to encourage comradeship and to assure that training, counseling, humor and general support are available to anyone who may need it for any reason.
Our Cafe 105 will be opening on F dock to assure that all are adequately nourished, refreshed and have the opportunity to get better acquainted.
We are all set for our giant BBQ on Tuesday evening.
Did we miss anything?
Are you pumped yet?
Did I mention that we have a class start? Did I mention that eight is a new record for J-105's at Race Week?
Thanks to all for your support of

Whidbey Island Race Week. Be sure and get your boats registered!
June 17-18, 1006 --
JFest opened on Saturday with one race, and finished on Sunday with two races. Current and variable winds made for challenging, exciting racing. Congratulations to Jubilee for first place, and to all 10 J/105's for participating and making it the most exciting and demanding class on the Sound! Race results are available here:
CYC-Seattle .
June 10, 1006 --
The Blake Island race--the last event in SYC's Tri-Island series--came to a head on June 10th.
Bifrost did well in the series, proving that the J/105 class is competitive on these longer races.
June 8, 1006 -- Jambo and her crew were seen looking fly on the Elliot Bay Thursday Night Series. They hung out to the bitter end in light airs, light rain, and contrary tide, before the race was called for time.
June 3, 1006 -- The Leukemia Cup, sponsored by Seattle Yacht Club, had five J/105's participate. Nice way to show the fleet's colors!
June 2, 1006 -- Jaded was spotted on Lake Washington in the Kirkland Friday Night series, cutting up the course in winds up to 22 knots. This series, sponsored by
Seattle Yacht Club consists of twelve races through the end of August. Good luck to Jaded and all her crew!
May 28, 1006 --
Bifrost, Mudlark and Panic participated in Swifture 2006 event sponsored by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club.
Bifrost was the first through Race Rocks and at the weather mark, but Panic made out like a bandit overnight,
rolling the competition and taking line honors at the finish.
