Fleet Articles: (apply to all one design starts, including non-fleet championship races except where noted.)


1) The main goals of the fleet are to foster fair racing and promote participation.

2) The “J/105 Class Association Rules” shall be followed with the limited exceptions specified below.

3) Additional exceptions to the J105 Class Rules may be granted by a majority vote of the Executive Committee.  Current exceptions, if any, are noted below.

4) All boats shall meet the safety requirements specified in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions for each race (rule 5.2). 

5) Crew eligibility for all races shall be per category level B (rule 3.6).

6) All participating boats must meet the national class membership requirements and it must be accomplished by contacting the national class directly (rule 3). 


Limited Exceptions to the J105 National Class Rules


1) The Seattle Sailing Club may enter up to two boats in any race as either a Chartered Boat or a “Training Boat” (i.e. where the crew is being trained by an SSC Skipper/Coach) provided the following: The boat’s Owner is an active Class Member.

SSC’s Skipper/Coach, if one is on board, is an associate member.

If the boat is a Chartered Boat (not serving as a Training Boat), then the Driver shall be an associate member as required by rule 3.4.

Whether a Chartered Boat or a Training Boat, the boat’s Driver, if not the Owner or the Skipper/Coach, belongs to SSC and is a Group 1 competitor (see rule 3.4)

The boat(s) may not be entered as a Training Boat in any class event designated by the ExComm as a national or international class event. (see rule 3.6)

2) In an effort to introduce new sailors to the J105 class, the crew weight limit restriction shall be removed for all non-Fleet Championship one-design starts.  For all Fleet Championship races, the crew weight limit shall be in effect and there will be a mandatory weigh-in for crew at the 2009 Seattle NOOD Regatta.


2009 Fleet Championship Trophy:


Sail Northwest’s fleet championship trophy will be awarded to the boat with the best results from five out of the seven following “regattas”:  PSSR, Seattle NOOD, J-Fest, Whidbey Island Race Week, Star and Bar Regatta, PSSC, and the seventh “regatta” will be comprised of the top 3 out of 5 scores in the following Mid-Distance races: (3 Center Sound  Series races, Blakely Rock Benefit

race and the Trans-Puget race).

Scores will be kept even if there is no separate class start. Eligibility is limited to boats complying with the fleet articles.  Any protests to the scoring shall be resolved by the Executive Committee.
